School Sports Injury Prevention Act

School Sports Injury Prevention Act (2011 House Bill 2182)

House Bill 2182 requires that the State Board of Education, in cooperation with the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA), gather information on the nature and risk of concussion and head injury, including the dangers of continuing to play or practice after suffering such an injury.  The law further provides that a student suffering a concussion or head injury must get a release form signed by the athlete and the athlete’s parent/guardian and returned to the school prior to participation in any sport competition or practice session.  Written clearance by a health care provider must also be returned to the school prior to participation in competition or practice.

The following link provides additional information on concussion guidelines, recommendations, forms, etc.
