Formula Grants:

Program Description:  AmeriCorps*Kansas provides financial support through grants to public and nonprofit organizations that sponsor service programs around the state, including faith-based and other community organizations, higher education institutions, and public agencies. These groups recruit, train and place AmeriCorps members to meet critical community needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment.
 
Funding guidelines:  Only current AmeriCorps*Kansas subgrantees were eligible to apply for these funds to engage AmeriCorps members and community volunteers in efforts to stimulate the economy through the expansion of current programming or the addition of a new component.  

Eligible activities include, but are not limited to, providing job counseling and skills training to the unemployed, constructing or rehabilitating housing, assisting nonprofits facing increased need and decreased resources, recruiting volunteers, making housing resource referrals for and providing legal services to those experiencing eviction or foreclosure, connecting children and families to health care, and allowing after-school centers that have lost funding to stay open. 

Funding:  Kansas Volunteer Commission/Kansas State Department of Education will awarded $235,044 to current AmeriCorps*Kansas subgrantees

Competitive Grants:

Program Description:  AmeriCorps State (Competitive) provides financial support through grants to public and nonprofit organizations that sponsor service programs around the country, including hundreds of faith-based and other community organizations, higher education institutions, Indian tribes, and public agencies. These groups recruit, train and place AmeriCorps members to meet critical community needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment.
