Parent Educators: Potential parent educators have the following qualifications: Demonstrated ability working with young children and their parents, along with either a 4 year degree from an accredited institute of higher education in early childhood education or a related field, a 2 year degree from an accredited institute of higher education in early childhood education or in a related field, 60 credit hours in early childhood education or a related field or high school diploma or GED. Educators with less than an Associate's degree must have a minimum of 2 years previous supervised work experience with young children and/ or parents. Kansas programs funded through the Department of Education must have a minimum of 60 credit hours in early childhood education or related coursework. A four-year degree is preferable.
Supervisors: For the supervisor, a college degree or beyond in early childhood education, elementary education, behavioral or social sciences or a related field is recommended. He or she must also successfully complete the Model Implementation Training. In addition, the supervisor should have demonstrated ability to work with adults and young children. It is highly recommended that supervisors attend the full week of training when possible.
