The purpose of the Kansas State Special Education Advisory Council is to provide policy guidance to the State Board of Education with respect to special education and related services for children with disabilities in the state. The Council meets as mandated by both the State and Federal Legislation. Council membership is made up of stakeholders throughout the state with the majority being individuals with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities. The State Board of Education makes the appointments to vacated positions on the Council during the month of June each year.

Special Education public comment can be submitted in two formats:

• In person, only through prior notification to Deb Burns, Council Administrative Assistant (*see address/e-mail below), scheduled at a designated time, during regularly scheduled meetings, at five minute intervals. Persons who wish to comment in person will be asked to share their name, organization, and topic. With prior agreement of the SEAC Chairperson, a statement may be extended beyond five minutes.
• Through e-mail or fax submission to Deb Burns, Council Administrative Assistant (*see e-mail/fax below). Comments will be shared at a designated time, during regularly scheduled meetings.

Below is the schedule for public comment dates/times for the current year. The members of the council will take comments under consideration. Should public comments indicate the need for a council response or action, members will take comments under consideration and an official response will be made at a later time.
