Accountability Reports

The annual Accountability Report is required by the Legislature and is intended to provide a snapshot of Kansas education for the most recently completed school year. The information provided in the Accountability Report is provided on a statewide basis and includes assessment results and trends, graduation and attendance rates, school violence rates and percentages of students passing advanced math and science courses. All of the information provided is disaggregated by race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status. Additional information is also provided, including a review of education legislation passed in the last legislative session, a look at the education workforce in the state and a summary of statewide demographics. The Accountability Report is typically distributed in January.

Relationship between the Accountability Report, the Assessment Report and the Building, District and State Report Card :

The annual Assessment Report is a review of performance on state assessments for the most recently completed school year. It deals only with assessment information on a statewide basis and disaggregates information by race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability status, English proficiency, gender and migrant status. The information from this report is incorporated into the Accountability Report.

The Building, District and State Report Card includes information that is in the Assessment and Accountability Reports, however the Report Card must provide the information not only on a statewide basis but also by school district and school building. The state requires the building level report, while the federal government requires the district and state level reports. The report card must include at least two years of data and must disaggregate the data by race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, disability status, English proficiency and migrant status. The Report Card is where AYP results are reported, which are different from assessment results. The Report Card is published in the Fall of each year and is probably the best place to get performance information.
