Licensure Requirements

 

  

What teaching licenses does Kansas issue and what are the requirements?

Standard Teaching Licenses:

  • Initial (2 years) – The initial Kansas teaching license
  • Professional (5 years) – A 2nd level license that is maintained through professional development
  • Accomplished (10 years) – an advanced level license for an individual who has completed an advanced performance assessment

Will I have to complete testing requirements for an initial Kansas license?

  

Does Kansas require a background clearance for licensure? 

Yes.  All applicants for an initial Kansas license must submit one fingerprint card for the purpose of a KBI and FBI background clearance report.   

Fingerprints are also required for applicants whose Kansas certificate/license is expired.
