The Kansas Fire Marshall has provided a response via KS Center for Safe Schools related to KS TechCoord Listserv question on the alarm tones and volume levels for KS Schools.  The following info was pulled from the attachment (click on 'Read More' for attachment!)
Section 4.4.3.1 - describes the horns and strobes need to sound and pulse in "temporal mode" (fire alarm installer will know what that is)  see below for additional info! 
Section 7.4.2.1 - Describes how loud the sound levels (dBs) should be for occupied spaces in all building types (between 75-110dBA).  Refer to Section 7.4.4.1 the minimum sound level in sleeping rooms should be at least 75 dBa.

At a formal proclamation signing ceremony Friday, Jan 25, Governor Sam Brownback proclaimed Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 as Digital Learning Day in Kansas and is encouraging students teachers, schools, parents, policymkers and all citizens of Kansas to learn more about ways to successfully integrate high-quality digital learning and the effective use of technology to help improve the learning of every student!  2013 Kansas Teacher of the Year, Dyane Smokorowski and a team of Andover Middle School 8th Graders attended the ceremony with KSDE leaders!  For information on how to participate go here!  See the Facebook post here!

Districts are being notified by Kan-Ed a minimum of 90 days in advance regarding the requirement to transition circuits and internet access during the 2012-2013 school year.  The following tips are intended to assist in  the process of securing replacement circuits/services in a way that provides E-rate eligibility (ie. discounts) effective July 1, 2013.    Please note:  Circuits secured by districts through the Kan-Ed State Contract are also affected.  If you are not sure if this information applies to you—please check with your Technology Coordinator and/or contact Kan-Ed.

Posted Wednesday, May 23, 2012 On Monday, the State Educational Technology Directors Association (SETDA) released The Broadband Imperative: Recommendations to Address K-12 Education Infrastructure Needs. This report examines current trends driving the need for more broadband in teaching, learning and school operations; provides state and district examples of the impact of robust deployment of broadband; and offers specific recommendations for the broadband capacity needed to ensure all students have access to the tools and resources they need to be college and career ready.

To recognize the first annual National Digital Learning Day on February 1, 2012, the Kansas State Department of Education is pleased to release a report highlighting the most frequently asked questions related to digital learning environments across the state. The report includes a 1:1 brief as well as a BYOD snapshot.

Information in the report was collected from 244 of the 286 Kansas school districts in January 2012 to provide a snapshot of the educational technology landscape in our state.  The full report and more detailed report on 1:1 projects in the state is available here!
