Early Childhood

Members of the Early Childhood team have responsibilities including coordinating the many early childhood programs located in KSDE, providing Technical Assistance to early childhood personnel in programs across the state, and participating in meetings, coordinating councils, and conferences that occur across Kansas. Early childhood include the continuum of birth to age eight (3rd grade).

The Early Childhood team through leadership and partnership, advances the provision of high quality early childhood and family services that result in the ability of all young children to succeed in school and life.

Early Learning Standards 2013 Revision

This is the third revision of the Kansas Early Learning Standards and is aligned with the K-12 College and Career Ready Standards. These standards are to be used to support the learning and development of young children ages birth to kindergarten and will also support the work of teachers in kindergarten through third grade, clearly showing the continuum of learning from birth through grade three. The Kansas Early Learning Standards are not an assessment or a curriculum and are not to be used to keep children out of a program. These standards can help educators and home visitors address the needs of the children in their care.

Kansas Parent Education Program Grant Application

We are pleased to release the 2017-18 Kansas Parent Education Program (KPEP) Grant Application. This application is for both continuing and new KPEP programs. The application must be submitted using SurveyMonkey. Pages cannot be saved and accessed later, so please be prepared to complete the entire application in one sitting once you enter the SurveyMonkey website.

The application has instructions, templates, and technical assistance contact information embedded. Please do not hesitate to contact those listed on the application if you need assistance. You can access a webinar next week to aid in the completion of the application. Please look for those details in the near future.

We hope the opportunity to submit your KPEP Grant Application via Survey Monkey provides an easy process for submission. Unfortunately, there is not a way to get a PDF of your grant yourself from SurveyMonkey. Once KSDE receives the application, the contact person listed on the application will receive an emailed PDF of the submitted application. Please allow at least two weeks after submission for this to occur. This process has greatly improved KSDE’s ability to analyze grant data and we appreciate your help.

The closing date for the grant application is Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. KSDE must receive all sections of the grant application, including the Assurances, on or before the deadline. You can scan and email, mail, or fax the signed Assurances to KSDE at the contact information provided below.
